If someone says to you that they're in a platonic relationship with someone who is strictly a close friend, exactly how is that defined and what does that mean?
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of word "platonic" states "involving affection but not sexual love" and "relationship" signifies "emotional, especially sexual, association between two people."

The contradictory meaning of these two words leaves one to wonder - Is it truly possible to have a platonic relationship with someone of the opposite or same sex?
This question has been expressed many times and as yet we're still to come up with a definitive answer. Many individuals whom have been questioned have stated quite frankly - ''NO''. While on the other hand, a few others said with absolute confidence that the answer is "YES." So which is it? Is there no clear-cut answer to the relationship of an ideal platonic nature? The proposed confirmation may very well lie with each individual’s personal experience.
Those in favour of platonic relationships listed many advantageous factors. They actually preferred to have those of the opposite sex as close friendships because:
1) They can be themselves.
2) Relationship advice and natural conversation flows without any ulterior motive.
On the other hand, those not in agreement stated that it was impossible for them to have a non-sexual relationship (non-love or dating) with those of the opposite sex. Through your own experience, what answer would you give to this question?
